Classical 101 Hosts Say Farewell to John Rittmeyer Before His Final Broadcast Friday

John Rittmeyer

Longtime Classical 101 afternoon drive-time announcer John Rittmeyer hosts his final broadcast Friday, Dec. 29, before heading into retirement after 30 years at WOSU.

You may have read about how John discovered classical music listening to WOSU while a student at Ohio State University, and how he started working as a WOSU announcer because he wanted to share his passion for classical music with others in Central Ohio.

Those of us who have worked most closely with John over the years wanted to send him off with all the warmth and generosity of heart with which he has companioned us with beautiful music every day for the last three decades.

Here are our personal reflections, goodbyes and heartfelt well-wishes, accompanied by some of John’s favorite pieces of music:

Please add your voices to the mix and leave your farewells to John in the comments. And be sure to tune in Friday afternoon to enjoy John’s swansong on Classical 101.

Thank you, John, for enriching our lives with beautiful music for the last 30 years. Congratulations and all the very best to you, from all of us at WOSU.

Jennifer Hambrick unites her extensive backgrounds in the arts and media and her deep roots in Columbus to bring inspiring music to central Ohio as Classical 101’s midday host. Jennifer performed with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Civic Orchestra of Chicago before earning a Ph.D. in musicology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
