There was a time in the United States when life moved a little slower, summer evenings lasted a little longer, and the local park was the place to be each week for an outdoor concert.
While there might seem to be less free time to enjoy such things, I encourage you to take a little time this week to slow down a bit, watch the sunset, and enjoy some great outdoor music with ProMusica Chamber Orchestra at Franklin Park Conservatory.
Again this summer, ProMusica has teamed with PNC Arts Alive and Franklin Park Conservatory to present three concerts on the beautifully manicured FPC grounds. You can bring a picnic, settle in, and hear great music perfectly chosen for a summer evening under the stars.
As the sun drops, the John F. Wolfe Palm House lights up and puts on a stunning light show which perfectly compliments the event.
ProMusica Chamber Orchestra, led by Music Director David Danzmayr, will perform a different program each night mixing the contemporary with classics, featuring ProMusica’s own musicians as soloists. Selections will include symphonies by Schubert and Mendelssohn, Strauss waltzes, and family favorites from film and Broadway.
Soloists include soprano Kathrin Danzmayr and tenor Stephen Keyes together with selections from West Side Story on Thursday evening, as well as Ms. Danzmayr singing several selections by the Strauss family...PMCO timpanist Renee Keller playing a marimba concerto on Saturday...and Concertmaster Katie McLin performing music from the film Schindler's List on Sunday.

David Danzmayr and Stephen Keyes spent a little time in the Classical 101 studios to talk about each performance.
David and Stephen gave an overview of Thursday evening's series opener which, along with music from Bernstein's West Side Story, offers favorites by Johann Strauss, and selection by his brother Eduard and another great Austrian composer Franz Lehar.
Saturday evening, Renee Keller performs the lively 1st Marimba Concerto by Anders Koppel, (you can hear some of it here), along with Mendelssohn's Scottish Symphony, the Symphony No. 3.
The series concludes Sunday with Mozart's overture to Don Giovanni, Three Pieces from Schindler’s List by John Williams, and Schubert's 3rd Symphony.
