Join us Friday evenings at 7 pm for Classical Showcase as we begin a 13-part series, "Carnegie Hall Live!" here on Classical 101.  Each week a guest host welcomes world-famous luminaries to the Carnegie stage, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Philadelphia, Chicago, and San Francisco Symphony Orchestras.

The Academy of Ancient Music, the Concert of Nations, and the English Baroque Soloists will have all-Baroque programs.  Recital programs will include pianist Daniil Trifonov for Bach, Beethoven, and Liszt, and baritone Thomas Hampson with pianist Wolfram Rieger have lieder, spirituals, and the world premier of Jennifer Higdon's Civil Words

The series opens in a big way with the "Opening Night Gala" with host Deborah Voigt introducing the Berlin Philharmonic  conducted by Sir Simon Rattle for a program of Rachmaninoff, Bruch, and Stravinsky.  Sergei Rachmaninoff's Symphonic Dances begins the concert, Anne-Sophie Mutter is the soloist for Max Bruch's Violin concerto No. 1 in G minor, and music from Igor Stravinsky's ballet The Firebird closes the program.

Classical Showcase airs Friday evening at 7 here on Classical 101.
