Wellness Wednesday: Minority Donors, Pelotonia, Childhood Cancer

11:00

African Americans make up 13% of the US population but 30% of the people waiting for organ transplants. This hour we'll discuss why the need for minority donors is so great. And some OSU scientists are fighting cancer one mile at a time. We'll hear about their medical and bicycle training. Plus we'll look at a new piece of the childhood cancer puzzle. Guests

  • Dr. Clive Callender, Director Emeritus, Howard University Transplant Program, and Founder of Minority Donor Awareness Week
  • Andrew J. Smith, principal at Maybury Elementary, organ donor
  • Taylor Brooks, undergraduate Pelotonia research fellow
  • Dr. Sameek Roychowdhury, professor of oncology at OSU, Pelotonia participant
  • Dr. Peter J. Houghton, director of the Center for Childhood Cancer at The Research Institute, Nationwide Children's Hospital

Event Fifth annual Pelotonia Ride kicks off Friday, August 9.
