Resources to Support Parents and Teachers

COLUMBUS, OHIO, MARCH 23, 2020 – As the transition to at-home learning for thousands of children across the state begins, WOSU Classroom is helping to provide access to the very best in educational programming and resources.

For Parents: Working in conjunction with PBS KIDS and with partners at Detroit Public TV, WOSU Classroom has launched a daily enewsletter jam-packed with ideas to support in-home learning and fun activities that bring to life the learning provided by PBS and member stations like WOSU TV. Parents are encouraged to sign up for free at wosu.org/classroom/learningathome.

Any time that kids need a safe space away from the news, parents can continue to turn to the WOSU Kids channel featuring 24/7 programming from PBS KIDS on channel 34.4, Spectrum channel 993, available via livestream at wosu.org or for YouTube TV subscribers.

As PBS celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2020, it has for the 17th consecutive year been named America’s most trusted institution in a nationwide survey. Americans find PBS as more trustworthy than government institutions and media sources such as digital platforms, commercial broadcast and cable television, newspapers, and social media. PBS KIDS was ranked the #1 educational media brand for children, compared with a host of other children’s media providers. (Source: Marketing & Research Resources, Inc. [M&RR Survey], January 2020)

For Educators: In addition to the daily enewsletter, WOSU Classroom has created a wealth of free resources to help teachers in their transition to online learning at Learning At Home webpage.

  • Online teaching and learning support for educators. These resources include lessons on how to use different virtual meeting tools, collaboration software, and tips for recording and sharing digital lessons.
  • Free professional learning videos. Having to move to an online teaching model quickly can be overwhelming for teachers. WOSU Classroom partnered with the Ohio Ed Techs to create a collection of videos to support this new virtual model.
  • Virtual office hours: WOSU Classroom has partnered with the Ohio Ed Techs to provide virtual office hours for educators who need assistance teaching in an online environment. Mondays & Wednesdays from 9:00am–12:00pm and 2:00pm–4:00pm.
