“Songs at the Center” Music Series 100th Episode Features Jeff Daniels
COLUMBUS, OHIO, August 10, 2022– Songs at the Center, the music series that started in Columbus and has aired on more than 400 PBS stations, celebrates its 100th episode with actor and songwriter Jeff Daniels. The episode airs on WOSU TV on Saturday, August 27 at 11 pm.
Daniels, a two-time Primetime Emmy Award winner, is interviewed by Songs at the Center host and creator Eric Gnezda and performs two songs on the half-hour episode.
On the show, Daniels tells of his drive to create. “Jim Carrey, we did Dumb & Dumber together, he’s a great friend to this day. He’s one of the most imaginative, fearless artists I know, and I learned a lot from him. Carrey told me: ‘Creative people are like sharks, they have to keep moving or they die.’ And that what it feels like … It’s not a faucet that I can turn off.”
Executive Producer and Managing Partner Jack FitzGerald said he and Gnezda are particularly grateful that the series continues to add TV stations to its roster, even after eight seasons. “Thanks to all our dedicated viewers in 42 states (and climbing). “Thanks to our sponsors, and thanks to Public TV programmers from coast to coast.”
Songs at the Center is Gnezda’s brainchild, growing from his experience as an award-winning singer-songwriter. “Originally, I wanted to provide an opportunity for Columbus songwriters to have some of the same opportunities I had in my career,” Gnezda said.
But quickly, after debuting on WOSU TV in January 2015, the weekly series went national and has included high-powered guests including John Oates, Janis Ian, Rodney Crowell, Peter Asher and scores of others. “Yet we also stay committed to showcasing talented unknown singer-songwriters who deserve national attention,” Gnezda said.
Through its eight seasons, Songs at the Center has showcased 95 songwriters with Ohio roots. It is produced by Gnezda and FitzGerald of The Songs at the Center Company. Songs at the Center is sponsored by JobsOhio and The James, and airs Saturday nights on WOSU TV at 11 pm.
