Former Intern Returns to Newsroom of WOSU 89.7 NPR News
COLUMBUS, OHIO, JUNE 2, 2021 – Michael Lee returns to WOSU Public Media as a general assignment reporter with 89.7 NPR News after being a production intern on All Sides with Ann Fisher and a reporting intern on the news team in 2018.
“I’m excited to return to the team where I got my passion for local news,” Lee said. “It’s good to come home and report on the community I grew up in. I hope to do the community justice in telling their stories.”
While Lee has been on general assignment in his career so far, he has written multiple stories on the Asian American and Pacific Islander community and the issues they face and hopes to do the same at WOSU. A member of the Asian American Journalists Association, Lee was a part of the organization’s Voices program. There, he helped produce the investigative piece, “How America’s top newsrooms recruit interns from a small circle of colleges,” which continues to be a topic of conversation among journalists.
Lee is a Central Ohio native, born in Columbus and growing up in Dublin. He is a recent graduate of Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, where he received his master’s degree in journalism, and an alumnus of The Ohio State University where he studied public affairs journalism and graduated in 2019. He previously interned at the Columbus Dispatch and more recently the Chicago Sun-Times.
