Classical 101 host Christopher Purdy
Purdy brings his deep knowledge and signature wit to Central Ohio’s classical audience during their early morning commute.
Purdy’s love for music is obvious to listeners, and he is always in demand around the community as a speaker for gatherings large and small.
Many concertgoers credit Purdy with adding to their appreciation of the music presented by the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, but his storytelling also is prized by many performing arts organizations as well as smaller groups, from local libraries to student groups.
Opera lovers may also remember Christopher from his 20 years of appearances as a quiz panelist on the Metropolitan Opera radio broadcasts, where his incredible memory and vast knowledge of opera stood him in good stead.
Purdy will continue to host Columbus Symphony Orchestra radio broadcasts, Essential Classics, Front Row Center and two series of shows highlighting local classical performances – Music in Mid-Ohio and Concerts at Ohio State.
With Christopher’s new morning hosting duties, the Friday afternoon Classical 101 By Request will go on hiatus. Sunday night’s Musica Sacra will be continuing with a new host later this fall.
Tomorrow, Tuesday, September 17, will be longtime Classical 101 morning host Boyce Lancaster’s last day on the air. He signs off at 10:00am, retiring after 35 years with WOSU Public Media.
Listen to Classical 101 on-air, online or on the WOSU Public Media app.
