WOSU Public Media is beginning construction of its new headquarters at the corner of East 14th Avenue and Pearl Alley just east of The Ohio State University campus. The $29 million building is part of the new 15+HIGH project being developed by Campus Partners. The new five-floor 52,000-square-foot WOSU headquarters and studios will be completed by early 2021.

The new facility will feature an open 2,200-square foot community studio, an expanded newsroom, broadcast studios, a performance studio and a state-of-the art media learning lab. Experiential activities will grow tremendously as the new headquarters will be home to more than 200 community events in its first year.
“This new headquarters will be transformative for WOSU, but more importantly it significantly expands our ability to serve this growing community and the Ohio State campus,” said Tom Rieland, General Manager of WOSU Public Media. “Much more than just a structure, this space encourages public engagement through experiential activities and events, it’ll be a place for the community and students to create their own stories, a collaborative public space to discuss the primary issues facing our community and the world. This new facility provides a new model for public media across the country.”
Since its first broadcast in 1920, WOSU Public Media has delivered engaging local and global news and public affairs programming, provided front-row access to musical performances, and inspired Central Ohio citizens through lifelong learning experiences. The facility will enable WOSU to expand and enhance its programming for the more than two million citizens it reaches through television, radio, digital and its WOSU Classroom services.
To date, individual and corporate donors have committed more than $9.5 million of the New Place. New Space. New Experience. campaign goal, including previously announced foundational gifts from Andy and Sandy Ross, L Brands Foundation and American Electric Power Foundation. “Throughout its history, the crossroads of campus and the University District neighborhood has been the gathering place for people of all walks of life,” said Amanda Hoffsis, President of Campus Partners. “How fitting that WOSU, a community treasure that seeks to inspire and connect through its programming, will have its home in the evolving 15+HIGH area. We are so excited to have WOSU become a part of the neighborhood.”
Design and development of the new headquarters is led by Campus Partners and Meyers + Associates Architecture based in Columbus, with primary construction by Messer Construction. Other contractors include Jezerinac Geers & Associates Inc., EMH&T, MKSK, and Prater Engineering Associates. WOSU is consulting with Russ Berger Design Group, which specializes in studio and broadcast facility design, and Diversified, a prominent media technology integration company.
