COLUMBUS, OHIO, March 26, 2018 — 89.7 NPR News, the all-day NPR news radio station of WOSU Public Media, was honored with eight awards from the Ohio Associated Press Media Editors. The state-wide division of radio stations recognized covers major markets in Ohio, including Cleveland and Cincinnati.
89.7 NPR News received two First Place Awards including Best Spot News Coverage.

Best Spot News Coverage – First Place to 89.7 NPR News Reporter Adora Namigadde and 89.7 NPR News Morning Anchor and Managing Editor Steve Brown for a series of stories looking at the tragic malfunction of a ride at the Ohio State Fair. Judges commented that it was “solid coverage of a story of statewide and national interest.”
Best Feature Reporting – First Place to 89.7 NPR News Reporter Adora Namigadde for the piece “Seriously, What’s the Deal with Pee Pee Township?” The feature, part of WOSU Public Media’s Curious Cbus project, highlighted a township in Pike County with an interesting name.
Best Anchor / News Host – Second Place to 89.7 NPR News Morning Anchor and Managing Editor Steve Brown.
Best Broadcast Writing – Second Place to 89.7 NPR News Reporter Adora Namigadde, also for her piece “Seriously, What’s the Deal with Pee Pee Township?”
Best Reporter – Second Place to former 89.7 NPR News Reporter Esther Honig.
Best Documentary or Series – Second Place to WOSU-FM for “Chasing the Dream”, a multi-platform, week-long series that chronicled the impact of income inequality in Columbus.
Best Enterprise Reporting – Second Place to former 89.7 NPR News Reporter Esther Honig for the story “Why Some Teen Moms Can’t Get the Pain Relief They Choose in Childbirth.” This examination of medical treatment for minors was produced in partnership with WOSU and Side Effects Media, a reporting collaborative focused on public health.
General Excellence, Broadcast – WOSU-FM received Second Place recognition.
As stated in the bylaws of the Ohio Associated Press Media Editors Association, the main purposes of the Association are ‘to advance the profession of journalism’ and ‘to examine the news and the services of The Associated Press’.
