Ohio’s minimum wage will increase by a few cents on Wednesday when the calendar flips to 2025.

Minimum wage for non-tipped employees will increase by 25 cents from $10.45 to $10.70. The minimum wage for tipped employees will go up 10 cents from $5.25 to $5.35.

The new wages apply to employees of businesses that make at least $394,0000 per year.

The minimum wage for businesses that make less than that is the federal minimum wage of $7.25. The federal minimum wage also applies to all 14- and 15-year-olds in Ohio, according to the Ohio Department of Commerce.

The federal minimum wage was set in July 2009. It takes an act of congress and a signature from the president to change it.

Ohio voters passed a constitutional amendment in 2006 that hikes the minimum wage each year on January 1. The increase is tied to the rate of inflation in the consumer price index for urban wage earners and clerical workers between September and August of the next year.

This year’s increase reflects a 2.4% change.
