How other states handle redistricting

As Ohio voters get ready to vote on Issue 1, which would take politicians out of the map-making equation, we discuss how the process has fared in other states.

In Arizona and Michigan, for example, independent commissions draw the maps, but the process hasn’t been without its bumps. In Iowa, an advisory commission drafts congressional and state boundaries but the state legislature retains final authority to implement them.

We examine how the redistricting process has played out in other states.
