5G cellular service is rolling out in Central Ohio, despite some concerns in other cities about how it could affect commercial flight safety.

Verizon announced Wednesday that Columbus will be among the cities covered with its 5G service. AT&T and T-Mobile recently made similar announcements.

John Glenn International Airport is not on an FAA list of those that could be negatively affected by 5G service.

Earlier this week, AT&T and Verizon said they will delay some new 5G wireless service after the airline industry raised alarms about potential interference with important systems on planes.

The airlines had warned of widespread flight cancellations and disruptions.

The Biden administration got involved to settle the showdown between the telecom companies and airlines over AT&T and Verizon plans to launch new 5G wireless service this week.

Airline CEO's warn that thousands of flights could be grounded or delayed if the rollout takes place near major airports because the service interferes with key systems onboard planes.
