One person has been killed and eight others injured from an overnight explosion at a northeast Columbus paint factory.

Columbus Fire Battalion Chief Steve Martin says firefighters were greeted by several injured people leaving the Yenkin-Majestic Paint facility on Leonard Avenue when first responders arrived just after midnight Thursday.

Martin says five of the wounded were taken to nearby hospitals. Crews had to extricate two trapped people while they also put out the flames.

Martin said that 44-year-old Wendell Light, an employee at the factory, was found dead in the rubble of the collapsed building.

The exact cause of the explosion was not immediately known.
