Investigators continue looking into the cause of a collision between a train and a car Tuesday morning in Hilliard in which the driver was seriously injured.

The accident occurred just after 11 a.m. on Davidson Road in Hilliard.

There are 5,700 railroad crossings across Ohio streets, roads and highways. Vicky Moore of the Ohio foundation Angels On Track says the large volume of rail traffic contributes to car/train crashes.

“Ohio traditionally ranks in the top ten states in the United States for car/train collisions and fatalities,” Moore says.

The rail crossing in Hilliard was marked with warning lights and automatic gates which Moore says is the safest sort of crossing.

“About half of our public crossings are equipped with gates; the safest protection there is,” Moore says

Officials continue to investigate the collision.
