“Won’t you be my neighbor?” The words and spirit of Mr. Rogers were very much alive at “Daniel Tiger’s Be My Neighbor Day” at the south side of Columbus on June 17.

Like good neighbors, children led their families in writing “thank you” notes to community helpers — the firemen down the street, the nurses and doctors at the children’s hospital a couple of blocks away, a librarian and dozen others.

The neighborly activity was part of a celebration organized by WOSU’S Ready To Learn® service with the support of Community Development for All People (CD4AP), a faith-based organization serving the south side.

Close to 200 families attended the event, urged for sure by the little ones, two to four year-old tykes, that are the biggest fans of Daniel Tiger.

The celebration did not disappoint with arts-and-crafts, bounce houses, balloon animals, pizza and ice cream! The biggest thrill of all was the grand appearance of Daniel Tiger to cap the event.
