Ohio Ready To Learn Workshop Descriptions January through June 2008
Ohio's Ready to Learn is a state-funded program targeted to home-based care providers. Participants are encouraged to sign-up for all three workshops as a series. Each workshop is 2 hours in length. Workshops are provided by the Ohio Educational Television Stations through a grant from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. Workshops are free and pending approval for Step Up To Quality and IACET CEU Credit. ODJFS In-service forms will be provided to each participant. For specific information about workshops, call (614) 292-9678 and ask for the Ready to Learn Coordinator.
Cultivating Literacy This workshop is an overview of emergent literacy concepts that serve as a framework for preschool education. Strategies to encourage listening, speaking, reading, and writing will be demonstrated and discussed with guidance from the Early Language and Literacy Classroom Observation (ELLCO) tool and the Ohio Early Learning Content Standards.
Learning Discipline Discipline is a time for teaching rather than a time for punishment. When children display challenging behaviors, influential relationships and responsive communication are keys to positive resolutions. In a workshop created by Family Communications Inc., participants will reflect on attitudes and practices to achieve a more cooperative environment.
Steps toward Intentional Teaching Tools like The Ages and Stages Questionnaire allow childcare providers the opportunity to assess children quickly and to communicate any concern with parents in an objective manner. Quality assessment helps the providers to focus on the child’s strengths and to create a plan for future success.
