Pint glass for the Columbus Craft Beer Week Six One Pour Event.

Columbus will celebrate Craft Beer Week May 13 – 21 with dozens of events, from educational programs to tastings.

Columbus Craft Beer Week wraps up with “Six One Pour” on May 20 at Huntington Park, to bring together Columbus brewers and craft beer afficionados. More than 50 craft breweries will be on hand, and there will be a special collaborative beer – brewed just for Columbus Craft Beer Week.

Check out columbusbeerweek.com for details.

Craft breweries are everywhere. There are 160 in Ohio, with 60 more in the planning stages, and there are now 30 craft breweries in Central Ohio, according to Mary MacDonald of the Ohio Craft Brewers Association. Add 150 beer bars, growler shops, bottle stores and more than 300 restaurants serving craft beer, and you have Columbus as one of the top craft beer cities in the Midwest.

Recently, I learned that Cleveland’s Platform Beer Co will renovate an old meat packing plant near Columbus State into a brewery and brewpub featuring rotating pop up restaurants, and a patio and rooftop deck with views of the downtown skyline. And Gordon Biersch and Columbus Brewing alum Keith Jackson is planning to open Combustion Brewery and Taproom in Pickerington.

And then there is Hoof Hearted Brew Pub – you gotta love the name…say it quickly three times. Check out Rich Terapak’s review.

The Red Bull was on OLD Henderson Rd, not Henderson Rd. My first job was salad bar attendant there. Additionally, Big Bite and Backyard Burgers were a couple of Fast Food joints that got their start in Columbus.
