Sherlock Lives, But How?

As we anxiously await the January MASTERPIECE CLASSIC: DOWNTON ABBEY season four premiere, there is another classic MASTERPIECE character also getting ready to make his appearance in January.  After being gone for almost two years MASTERPIECE MYSTERY! SHERLOCK, starring Benedict Cumberbatch, is back with three new episodes.

If you’ll remember, Watson last saw Sherlock falling to his death.  Of course that wasn’t the last we the audience saw of Sherlock.  The question is, what really happened up on that roof?   If you’re a fan of Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes series you know that the author did not really kill his infamous sleuth in The Final Problem story.  However several years were to pass before Doyle let his reader know Holmes was still among the living.  A bit ironic that we’ve had to wait so long for the next installment in the MASTERPIECE MYSTERY! series.

To help jog your memory or get you caught up with Sherlock Holmes, WOSU TV will air season two of MASTERPIECE MYSTERY! SHERLOCK on Monday nights at 9pm beginning December 30, leading  up to the premiere of, the brand new, season three on Monday, January 20 at 9pm. Great drama just keeps getting better on WOSU TV.

I watched cringing away like an old curmudgeon the documentary on Arthur Conan Doyle and Holmes on WOSU (12/17/13) . The show was fundamentally flawed and proceeded on a complete misunderstanding of the nature of the vital differences between deductive and inductive logic .Essentially Holmes makes inductions in which the conclusions of his arguments are highly likely to be true but not guaranteed to be true as in the case of sound deductive arguments. Shame
