Christmas In Norway With The St. Olaf Choir

WOSU TV will feature several holiday music specials in the coming week and it all begins on this week’s SUNDAY SHOWCASE.   Join us this Sunday beginning at 2pm for an afternoon of  festive music.

On Monday evening at 9pm it’s music from the St. Olaf choir in their new program, CHRISTMAS IN NORWAY WITH THE ST. OLAF CHOIR.  This Christmas special was filmed in Trondheim, Norway’s magnificent Nidaros Dom cathedral, one of the oldest Gothic cathedrals in the world. Featured performers include the renowned voices of the St. Olaf Choir  from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota. The program showcases the rich choral music traditions of two countries, presenting traditional Christmas hymns and carols in both Norwegian and English as well as accompaniment by a string quartet, piano, organ and Hardanger Fiddle, a traditional Norwegian instrument. The St. Olaf Choir, the pioneer a cappella choir in the U.S., has a long standing relationship with Norway, dating back to 1874 when St. Olaf College was founded by a group of Norwegian-American pastors. Join us Monday evening, December 23 at 9pm for this holiday special.
