Beam Me Up Scotty
I’m a real TV watcher, always have been and most likely always will be. My friends tease me because I’m the one in the crowd that can name that TV series or character faster than they can Google the answer. I hate to brag but I did get all the questions on this little TV trivia quiz correct, did you? I’m thrilled to see some of my all time favorite TV genres being profiled in the new season of PIONEERS OF TELEVISION.
Pioneers of Television begins 8pm on Tuesday, January 18.
This second installment of PIONEERS OF TELEVISION starts with science fiction. If you’re of a certain age, I know somewhere along the line you have said, “Danger, Danger Will Robinson”. Remember when Lost in Space went from black and white to color. Boy those groovy space outfits the Robinson sisters wore certainly were colorful! Of course you can’t really do a profile of science fiction on TV without Star Trek and The Twilight Zone. It’s all there my friends for your enjoyment.
Another classic TV genre, Crime Drama’s will air on February 1. Today we watch reality shows about police women in some city in America, or the bad boys of the weekend, Cops. Back in the day it was Angie Dickinson, Peter Faulk, Dragnet and “one Adam-12, one Adam-12″.
It’s hard for us to imagine today that there was a time when Bozo, Mister Rodgers and Romper Room were just local kids programs. Confession time, for you Columbus natives who remember I was on Lucy’s Toy Shop. I still have the picture they took of all the kids on the show for the day.
Finally this series wouldn’t be complete without a look at the Westerns. Sure there’s Gunsmoke, Bonanza and Davey Crockett but they all pale in comparison to The Big Valley. I have the entire series on DVD and when I’m in a funk I put in an episode that is all about Heath and I’m happy for the hour. I mean come on Lee Majors as Heath Barkley, it doesn’t get any better than that!
