Sure. I get that cooking shows are all about escapism; a person who knows more about cooking than you do prepares something that you don’t have the time to make, and eats it in a place in which you wish you lived.

So excuse me if I don’t feel a lot of pity for chef Eric Ripert, who hosts the cooking show “Avec Eric,” which starts a run on WOSU TV on Saturdays at 2:30pm. He says: “It’s very difficult for chefs to take actual vacations…”

His web site follows that up with: “A chef’s job is much more than cooking in a restaurant. Eric travels to Grand Cayman for a grand cookout and grilling competition with his friend Anthony Bourdain and lots of laughs and great food. At home, he cooks Island Inspired Fresh Snapper Curry.”

Pity poor Eric and Anthony. Hanging out in the Caymen Islands and having to make this for your entertainment (no doubt after a swim). The least you can drool is sit captive in your living rooms as winter approaches and drool, as I probably will, as well.

You can join me as I cook with and hang out with my friends and fellow chefs, Grant Achatz, José Andres, Anthony Bourdain, David Chang, Dean Fearing and emcee for the weekend, Gail Simmons from Food & Wine Magazine. — Eric
