A Classic Sherlock Holmes
In January we began airing the classic Sherlock Holmes series from the 1980′s starring Jeremy Brett. Your response to this series was fantastic! Many of you called and emailed your approval of this classic series and thanked us for putting it on the air. In March the series took a break so we could present the second season of CALL THE MIDWIFE. I’m happy to say beginning this Thursday, June 13 at 10pm SHERLOCK HOLMES starring Jeremy Brett is back on WOSU TV.
Thursday’s episode A SCANDAL IN BOHEMIA introduces us to Irene Adler which of course begins to draw us closer to Moriarty. In A SCANDAL IN BOHEMIA Holmes and Watson are asked by a masked nobleman to save one of the royal houses of Europe, the kingdom of Bohemia, from ruin. But alas even the best plans of Sherlock Holmes are beaten by a woman’s wit, Miss Irene Adler. If you’re a viewer of MASTERPIECE MYSTERY: SHERLOCK this episode may sound a little familiar. It was the first episode on season two of SHERLOCK starring Benedict Cumberbatch, which by the way will have a brand new season three in the spring of 2014.
I’ve been watching the BBC America specials showcasing all the actors who have played Dr. Who over the years. Can you imagine if we had a Sherlock Homes marathon that did the same thing! A quick Google search turned up over 50 names. A surprising list that includes John Barrymore, Charlton Heston, Leonard Nimoy and George C. Scott.  I enjoy the Sherlock mysteries and in turn enjoy each actors interpretation of the character. Although to be honest Jeremy Brett is one of my favorites. He really presents the whole Sherlock Holmes character as created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
SHERLOCK HOLMES airs Thursday evenings at 10pm on WOSU TV with an encore presentation Saturday mornings at 4am.
