WOSU hosts free screening of American Experience Freedom Summer

Join WOSU Public Media for a special free advance screening of the American Experience documentary film Freedom Summer at Gateway Film Center on Thursday, June 19 at 7pm. The first 25 attendees will receive a complimentary film poster.

The film focuses the summer of 1964, when the nation’s eyes were riveted on Mississippi. Over 10 memorable weeks known as “Freedom Summer”, more than 700 student volunteers joined with organizers and local African Americans in an historic effort to shatter the foundations of white supremacy in the nation’s most segregated state.

American Experience Freedom Summer was directed by acclaimed filmmaker Stanley Nelson, who also directed American Experience documentaries Freedom Riders and The Murder of Emmett Till“.
