Breaking news today related to President-Elect Obama pushing for a delay in the digital television transition scheduled for February 17th.
I agree this is probably a good move from a consumer standpoint — the government has not targeted its funding properly and perhaps millions of those most in need of assistance to make the transition would be left behind.
The issue for WOSU is that keeping our old analog transmitters on at our towers in Westerville and Portsmouth will cost us about $7,000 a month…funding we have not budgeted. I’m also afraid of another repurcussion — people will not believe this will ever occur and not take it seriously.
Congress will have to enact a new law to change the date of the digital transition.
