Unlike years back, you won’t see much Ohio State sports on WOSU TV or hear it on WOSU Radio, but WOSU is proud of the play of Thad Matta’s team and thrilled to see the Buckeyes in the Final Four for the first time since 2007. This is the type of team you have to love. After being touted all year as one of the nation’s top teams, they closed out February with three losses in five games. They seemed fractured at times as a team. Now, you see a team that has a group of unselfish players focused on winning, getting energized by the most uncelebrated part of the game – defense. How can you not love it to see Aaron Craft saving a ball and running up into the the first row of the stands and then diving back onto the floor. Or Jared Sullinger and Deshaun Thomas missing their first shot and scrambling for the rebound, out hustling their opponent, to put it back up and in. Or Lenzelle Smith, Jr. getting head knocked and needing four stitches, but returning in the second half to nail some key 3-pointers. Not to mention our third string center who hasn’t played much all year turning in some good minutes with a jam and several blocked shots.
For decades, WOSU TV and Radio broadcast Ohio State football and basketball games, but it all started to change with the coming of cable TV and huge broadcast contracts. We have some on our team who remember those days fondly. Now, we’ll just be like you at 8:49 pm this Saturday, cheering on the Buckeyes from our recliner. Go Bucks!
