Demolition has begun of a central Ohio veterans memorial ahead of the creation of a statewide veterans memorial on the site.
The Franklin County Commission voted unanimously Tuesday to hire a firm that will draw up plans to raze the 60 year old building.
For decades, the Franklin County Veterans Memorial complex has been a popular venue for all sorts of cultural performances and sporting events such as The Arnold Classic. But now that county commissioners plan to demolish the building to make way for a smaller memorial, regular patrons are looking for alternative spaces.
Franklin County Commissioners have cleared the way for demolition of Vetâ€™s Memorial. Itâ€™s part of a project to spruce up the west side of the Scioto River. But some veterans are not happy, and at least one group may still try to stop it.
A group of veterans opposed to the demolition of Vets Memorial said it may try to stop the re-development plans by taking the issue to voters.
