Columbus judges have ruled that a homeless man accused of stabbing a Columbus State Community College professor and a homeless woman charged with causing a bomb scare at Port Columbus are mentally incompetent to stand trial.

Central Ohio judges have ruled that a homeless man accused of stabbing a college professor and a homeless woman charged with causing a bomb scare at an airport have been found mentally incompetent to stand trial.

Both have been hospitalized for mental health treatment in an effort to bring them to trial within one year.

Their cases are unrelated.

Police said 36-year-old Isaac Rotich was arrested in June after a part-time mathematics professor was stabbed at the downtown campus of Columbus State Community College. Police said Rotich knew the man, who recovered from his injury.

Police at Port Columbus International Airport said 57-year-old Klara Bias was arrested in August in connection with a threatening letter and fake explosive left at the airport.

Officials with the Columbus-based private aviation firm NetJets have held a ceremonial groundbreaking at Port Columbus. The expansion of NetJets facilities appears to signal better times for the company.

Officials with the Columbus-based private aviation firm NetJets have held a ceremonial groundbreaking at Port Columbus. The expansion of NetJets facilities appears to signal better times for the company.

Just two years ago, NetJets was in big financial trouble having lost hundreds of millions of dollars. The company subsequently scrapped plans to build a $200 million administrative complex at Port Columbus. But on April 5 there was a ceremonial groundbreaking for a more modest $21 million headquarters building at the airport.

In remarks to the audience Mayor Michael Coleman noted the difficulties the company had experienced.

“NetJets has faced challenges like we all have,” Coleman said. “But this is a major investment in a major city. And NetJets has weathered through these challenges and has come out better at the other end as a result. We could not be more proud than to have NetJets’ commitment to the city of Columbus.”

NetJets employs more than 1300 people in Columbus but many work at leased office space in the Easton area. By constructing a 140,000-square-foot building adjacent to its flight operations facilities at Port Columbus, NetJets predicts it will save $900,000 annually. And, says Jordan Hansell, the company’s president and CEO, the merging of the workforce will mean greater productivity.

“The new corporate headquarters will join our more than 1300 Columbus based employees together in one centralized location allowing our team members to interact with each other more efficiently and thereby enhancing our overall business,” said Hansell.

Construction of the building is already underway. Completion is scheduled for no later than April, 2012.
