A 17-year-old boy charged with killing two teenage brothers in northwest Ohio has pleaded not guilty.

Michael Aaron Fay entered the pleas during an arraignment Tuesday in Putnam County Juvenile Court. He’s charged with delinquency in connection with aggravated murder.

Fay is accused of killing 17-year-old Blake Romes and 14-year-old Blaine Romes in their Ottawa trailer May 9.

An Amber Alert for all three teens was issued that day after the mother of the Romes teens discovered a gun and blood inside a trailer where the three boys lived with their mothers.

Fay told officers that the Romes brothers were dead and pointed authorities to their bodies after he was found with a stolen car in Columbus.

A prosecutor said both victims were shot once in the head.

The Ohio Supreme Court said a judge should reconsider an inmate’s request for new DNA testing on a cigarette butt from the scene of a double murder that led to the prisoner’s death sentence.

The 5-2 ruling Thursday clarifies the handling of requests for retesting DNA after convictions in Ohio. It said a lower court wrongly denied Tyrone Noling’s second request for new testing without considering updated requirements in state law.

Earlier testing showed Noling hadn’t smoked the cigarette. He contends technological advances make it possible to identify the smoker and determine whether that person was among previously undisclosed suspects.

The court said re-testing is allowed under certain conditions, including disclosing new information that an earlier test couldn’t.

Noling was convicted of killing a Portage County couple in 1990.

A New Albany doctor charged with raping and killing a pregnant woman has pleaded not guilty.

A judge set a $1 million bond Thursday for Dr. Ali Salim, an amount the Delaware County prosecutor expected Salim could pay. The judge also said the New Albany man will be on house arrest and must wear a GPS monitoring device.

Prosecutors had asked for a $5 million bond, arguing that Salim treated the corpse of victim Deanna Ballman inhumanely and that the incident was not isolated. Prosecutors also said Salim, who is from Pakistan, is a flight risk because of the amount of evidence to be presented against him.

Salim is suspected of killing Ballman and her unborn child last summer after she responded to an online job ad he placed.

A New Albany doctor has been charged with two counts of murder in the death of a young Pataskala woman and her unborn baby.

Deanna Ballman, 23, was eight months pregnant when she was found dead inside a car in rural Delaware County last summer. Family members said she went missing while responding to a Craigslist job ad for cleaning a house in the New Albany area.

Police quickly zeroed in on a home owned by physician Ali Salim. He’s now charged with giving Ballman a lethal dose of heroin before raping her.

The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office says he was arrested at his home today and taken to the county jail while awaiting arraignment.

Jury selection has begun in the trial of the alleged mastermind of a deadly plot to lure robbery victims with phony Craigslist job offers, killing three men and wounding a fourth.

More than 200 prospective jurors gathered Tuesday in the Akron Civic Theater because there was no courthouse room big enough.

Judge Lynne Callahan told prospective jurors that jury selection in the murder trial of 53-year-old Richard Beasley could extend into next week and the trial could last six weeks. He could face the death penalty.

Prosecutors have portrayed Beasley as an ex-con street preacher in Akron and mentor to a teenager convicted in the plot.

Co-defendant Brogan Rafferty, who was then 17, was sentenced to life in prison in November after being found guilty in the plot.

Police say a man went to the south Columbus home of his estranged wife and asked to be let in before he fatally shot her and then committed suicide.

Columbus police say 39-year-old Eric Morgan showed up at the home of 47-year-old Kathy McCoy on Saturday afternoon and said he wanted to come inside. Police say McCoy reluctantly allowed him to enter her Columbus home.

Once inside, police say, Morgan killed her and then himself.

Detective Andrew Mitchell says the couple separated in July. Morgan’s mother, Brenda, says the separation happened after McCoy found out Morgan was cheating on her.

Brenda Morgan says McCoy was “a good woman” and her son “did wrong.”

Court records show Eric Morgan pleaded guilty in 2003 to a domestic violence charge.
