An Ohio man who uses a biblical reference and a statement against “poisoned waters” on billboards opposing local deep-injection gas wells is facing a legal threat from the well’s Texas operator.

Austin, Texas-based Buckeye Brine alleges in a July lawsuit that the billboards paid for by Michael Boals contain false and defamatory attacks against its two wells. They dispose of contaminated wastewater from oil and gas drilling.

The 55-year-old Boals refuses to pull the billboards. He says stating they “pump poisoned waters” underfoot is true. An environmental legal group argues quoting prophecy from Revelation – on men dying from waters “made bitter” – is his free-speech right.

The company says its well is safe and legal and the messages are misleading. It has taken its complaint to the sign owner.

I am David. I am brave. I shall defend our island planet, whatever the cost may be, I shall fight on the beaches, I shall fight on the landing grounds, I shall fight in the fields and in the streets, I shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender to the fossil fuel foe. It is no use saying, ‘We are doing our best.’ You have got to succeed in doing what is necessary. This is our ultimate challenge, the stuff that epic history is made of. Don’t stay home and watch it on the tele. Be brave. Be there.

I would love to see this go to court. Then the fracking industry SHOULD be forced to reveal just what’s in that vile mixture they’re pumping into the ground. Whatever it takes . . .

Michael Boals is to be congratulated on exposing the horrible practice of injecting fracking waste into Ohio’s ground water. The practice is actually equivalent to giving Mother Earth a toxic enema. Where can I send money to help fund the billboards and fight the lawsuit?

There used to be a billboard near our house that said “Range Resources: Drilling is Just the Beginning”. I always wanted to add: Of The End.
