National Accounting Group Recognizes Ohio Treasury

A national government accounting group is recognizing innovations at the Ohio treasury.

Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel accepted the nonpartisan Association of Government Accountants’ excellence award in Orlando on Tuesday.

The 15,000-member professional association provides education, professional development and certification to government fiscal agencies around the country. Ohio is the only statewide office to win thA national government accounting group is recognizing innovations at the Ohio treasury.

In its application, Ohio touted the office’s switch from driving checks around the state to electronic banking, along with other cost-saving efforts. The office also noted plans to bring Ohio’s checkbook online and its launch of a new STAR Plus investment program that capitalized on historically low interest rates.

The 36-year-old Mandel, a Republican, is the nation’s youngest state treasurer. He faces Democratic state Rep. Connie Pillich in this fall’s election.
