Columbus is one step closer to hosting a national political convention in 2016. Members of the Democratic National Committee are expected to visit the city later this summer.

One day after Columbus pitched its 400-page proposal to a Democratic National Committee advisory group, the city received word it’s advancing to the next phase.
Members of the DNC selection committee will visit Columbus in July or August.

The city faces stiff competition from Birmingham, Cleveland, New York, Philadelphia and Phoenix.

Experience Columbus CEO Brian Ross said Columbus is ready to host an expected 40,000 visitors.

Cleveland is still in the running for the Republican National Convention. The RNC rejected Columbus’ bid.
