Friends, Family Mourn Ohio Soldier Killed In Afghanistan
Funeral services were being held late this morning for the southern Ohio soldier who was among the five killed in whatâ€™s being described as friendly fire in Afghanistan.
A weekend procession for Army Specialist Justin Helton attracted hundreds of people who lined parts of U.S. 23 south of Columbus.
Heltonâ€™s funeral was scheduled for late this morning at Eastern High School in his home town of Beaver.
Helton was one of five soldiers who died June 9 in southern Afghanistan, while serving as part of a joint security operation. The Pentagon said Helton was assigned to the 18th Ordnance Company out of Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
Hundreds of people lined U.S. 23 on Saturday to honor the 25-year-old soldier as a procession escorting his hearse traveled from Rickenbacker Airport in Columbus to a funeral home in Waverly.
