Ohio’s Republican U.S. Senator is pushing a resolution to say Congress is officially opposed to the recent prisoner swap that freed five Al-Qaeda operatives in exchange for Army Sergeant Bo Bergdahl.

Rob Portman contends that the President’s decision to not address Congress before the prisoner swap violated the defense authorization spending bill.

“(In) our resolutio,n there’s nothing about taking away the president’s prerogative about being Commander in Chief. It says there is a law, Congress passed it and the President should follow it. It’s a law that he signed.”

Portman says he’s also working on a proposal to make it easier to hire and fire employees at the Department of Veterans Affairs in light of the recent scandal there.
