COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – A school district spokesman says a shooting near a central Ohio elementary school led to a precautionary lockdown of the building, but no children were injured or involved in the shooting.

Columbus City Schools spokesman Andrew Marcelain said he was not at the school. He had few details about the Thursday afternoon shooting on a street in front of Liberty Elementary School. He says children get out of the school around 3:30 pm. and were quickly taken back inside when the shooting occurred.

Marcelain says the school was temporarily locked down for about an hour with no one allowed to leave or enter the building.

Police did not immediately return calls.

Marcelain says the school serves kindergarten through fifth grade students and has at least a couple hundred children.
