Portune Says He Will Challenge FitzGerald In Democratic Primary
Possible Democratic gubernatorial candidate Todd Portune said he will file with the state as a Democratic candidate for the office of Governor provided he can find a running mate and can gather the 1,000 valid signatures necessary.
The Hamilton County Commissioner told WOSU today:
“I have now made the final decision that I will file so long as we can clear the last two hurdles. And that is to secure an appropriate candidate for the office of Lieutenant Governor. And then having concluded that process, circulate the petitions necessary by Ohio law and get the requisite number of signatures in order to file no later than 4 p. m. February 5th with the Secretary of State’s Office in Columbus.”
If he files, Portune will take on Democratic Cuyahoga County Executive Ed Fitzgerald in the primary.
Portune said an official announcement scheduled for noon today on Cincinnati.com was cancelled by the Cincinnati Enquirer.
