Lawyer Says Ohio Deputy Left Boy’s Dad After Accident
A defense attorney says an Ohio man shouldn’t be prosecuted for leaving the scene of an accident that killed his 4-year-old son after the boy fell out of a van and was run over.
Natividad de Jesus Hernandez of Columbus is accused of driving away without talking to authorities after the Thursday accident in Union County.
Attorney Scott Culbert says a deputy sheriff who responded to the accident rode with the child in an ambulance, and Hernandez was left alone on the roadside.
Hernandez’s $500,000 bond was continued Monday in Marysville Municipal Court.
Authorities say Hernandez, who is from El Salvador, is in the U.S. illegally and was stealing from a construction site.
His attorney denies the theft allegation.
