Hundreds Remain Evacuated After Ohio Railcar Leak
Hundreds of homes in a small northern Ohio city will remain evacuated into Thursday after a train derailment damaged a railcar that leaked flammable liquid.
A spokesman for CSX Corp. says the company is working through Wednesday night to clean up the spill in Willard, about 65 miles southwest of Cleveland.
Spokesman Gary Sease said four cars derailed at a rail yard late Tuesday while switching trains. He says the damaged car leaked about half of its 26,000 gallons of styrene monomer, which is used to make various plastic and rubber products.
Residents were told overnight to evacuate an area encompassing more than 425 homes.
Sease said CSX is providing hotels to the evacuees and offering a Thanksgiving meal to residents and first responders impacted by the spill.
