Ohio Senators Back Debt Deal, Reps. Split
Ohio’s Congressional delegation was nearly evenly split in last night’s vote to avoid a debt default.
Republican Senator Rob Portman voted for the compromise, but said “lurching from crisis to crisis is no way to rejuvenate America’s economy”.
Dem. Sherrod Brown also supported the deal to avoid default.
Republican Congressman Steve Stivers voted yes because he said he didn’t want default written in in his obituary.
Pat Tiberi also cast a yes vote, while Republicans Bill Johnson and Bob Gibbs voted against the compromise.
Other no votes came from Republican Reps. Tom Reed, Chris Collins, Steve Chabot, Brad Wenstrup, Jim Jordan, Robert Latta, and James Renacci.
