The federal government recommends demolishing over 200 buildings at the site of a former Cold War-era uranium plant in southern Ohio.
Ohio Prison Suicides Not Limited To Mentally Ill
A new report finds that suicides by Ohio inmates are not limited to those on prison mental health units.
The report also finds that suicides generally occur in high security prisons and in reception facilities where inmates first enter the system.
The majority of inmates who kill themselves do so within the first couple of years of incarceration or after about 10 years inside.
The study by the Correctional Institution Inspection Committee says 88 Ohio inmates killed themselves since 2000, a rate lower than the national average.
Prison suicides are being scrutinized in Ohio following the Aug. 4 suicide of death row inmate Billy Slagle and the Sept. 3 suicide of Cleveland kidnapper and rapist Ariel Castro.
