Man Who Held 3 Captive In Ohio Moved To Orient
The Cleveland man who held three women captive for a decade remains at the state prison Correctional Reception Center in Orient.
Ariel Castro, 53, is in protective custody. Orient is about 20 minutes southwest of Columbus.
“Protective custody housing is only available at the Correction Reception Center in Orient. So his stay at Orient in protective custody is indefinite right now,” said JoEllen Smith, Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections spokeswoman.
Smith did not know whether Castro will be taken out of protective custody. She said he continues to be processed.
“There’s really no set time frame for the reception process to be complete. It varies based on a number of different factors including the inmate themselves and bed availability,” Smith said.
Castro was sentenced last week to life in prison plus 1,000 years. He pleaded guilty to more than 900 counts.
The women escaped in May when Amanda Berry kicked out part of a door and yelled for help. The house was demolished Wednesday.
