Veteran journalist Carl Hoffman believes he’s solved one of the great mysteries of the 20th century. In 1961 at the age of 23, Michael Rockefeller – son of New York Governor Nelson Rockefeller and a member of one of the richest and most powerful families in America ¬– travelled to remote New Guinea in search of primitive art for his father’s new museum.
Autopsy: Condemned Ohio Man Apparently Hanged Self
An autopsy shows that a death row inmate in Ohio apparently hanged himself three days before his execution.
A coroner in southern Ohio says preliminary autopsy results are consistent with suicide by hanging, but more tests are needed before a final cause of death is established.
Ohio Prisons spokeswoman JoEllen Smith says 44-year-old Billy Slagle was found early Sunday at the Chillicothe Correctional Institution south of Columbus. He was declared dead about an hour later.
Slagle was sentenced to die for fatally stabbing a neighbor in 1987 during a Cleveland burglary. He was set to be executed on Wednesday but his lawyers were working to halt the execution.
There have been at least three other death row suicides nationwide this year.
Officials haven’t said how Slagle hanged himself.
