City: 75 Cleveland Officers Broke Rules In Chase
Cleveland officials say 75 patrol officers last fall violated orders and department rules during a deadly police chase.
Officers fired 137 shots at a fleeing driver and passenger who were killed in the November chase. The 23-minute pursuit wove through residential neighborhoods.
Police Chief Michael McGrath said in releasing the review Friday that 19 officers are being referred to the public safety director for disciplinary hearings. Should they be punished, they could get a written reprimand or face suspension.
One officer in violation has since left for Cleveland’s fire department but still faces discipline.
Police previously announced punishment for 12 supervisors stemming from the chase. One supervisor was fired, two were demoted, and nine were suspended.
