Board Member: Break Up Levy To Limit Money Going To Charters
A Columbus school board member says the district should break up a massive levy scheduled for the November ballot in order to limit the amount of money being shared with charter schools.
The proposal from board member Mike Wiles at a special Tuesday night meeting follows Governor Kasich signing a bill that requires the district to put a levy on the fall ballot and share proceeds with high-performing charters.
Wiles says the district could break the levy up into several questions to limit money going to charters.
The proposal did not go a vote on Tuesday. The board is scheduled to finalize the fall levy request next week.
