Mansfield To Host “Shawshank Reunion” Weekend
The Ohio city that served as backdrop to the 1994 prison drama “The Shawshank Redemption” plans a 20th anniversary celebration of the filming.
The film stars Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman as convicted murderers who become unlikely friends.
The Mansfield/Richland County Convention and Visitors Bureau says its “Shawshank Reunion Weekend” takes place over Labor Day weekend.
The celebration will include special events, and site tours in Mansfield, Ashland and Upper Sandusky showcasing locations used in the film.
Those include the Ohio State Reformatory used as Shawshank State Prison and the oak tree, located at Malabar Farm.
Several actors from the film are expected, including Bob Gunton, who played the warden.
Mansfield’s Renaissance Theatre plans to restage the film’s 1994 premier at 7 p.m. Aug. 30.
