The number of foreclosures in the Columbus area is down sharply over the first half of the year.

Foreclosures in Franklin County peaked in early 2010, when more than a thousand homes went into foreclosure in a single month.

The latest figures from the county Clerk of Court’s office show foreclosures have slowed to about half that pace.

3,002 homes went into foreclosure in the first six months of the year. That’s down more than 25 percent from the same period last year. Much of the drop in foreclosures in Ohio and around the nation is credited to a $25 billion settlement with providers who admitted to several abuses.
