Jury Orders Delaware Church To Pay Victim $3.6 Million
A Delaware County jury has ruled that a church should pay $3.6 million to a woman who was sexually assaulted by a former pastor when she was a teenager.
The panel found Monday that Grace Brethren Church was negligent in supervising pastor Brian L. Williams. He pleaded guilty to assaulting the girl in 2008 and is serving an eight-year prison sentence.
The woman and her father sued the Grace Brethren Church in Delaware because that church had supervised and supported Williams as a youth pastor at an affiliated church in Sunbury.
The lawsuit claims the women, who was 15 at the time of the assault, suffers from post-traumatic stress.
The jury also awarded $75,000 to the woman’s father.
