Panel Seeks School Floor Plans, Online Access
A task force wants every Ohio school to submit floor plans and other key information about their buildings so it can be accessed by first responders in the vent on an emergency.
The recommendation for floor and safety plans is one key part of a report issued today by the panel convened by Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine. That recommendation came after school shootings in Connecticut and Chardon, Ohio last year.
DeWine also wants to let schools upload the information online instead of mailing his office paper copies to expedite the process. State law already requires schools to submit emergency plans, but the A.G.’s office says at least 189 schools are out of compliance.
Today’s recommendations follow DeWine’s office offering voluntary weapons and first-responder training for teachers earlier this year.
