Foreclosures during the Great Recession added to thousands of blighted properties in Columbus. But, a state program helped fund demolition of many of those houses and apartment units.
Ohio County Court Has Spent $18,000 On Rape Case
A county official in eastern Ohio said the high-profile case of a 16-year-old girl raped by two high school football players last summer has cost the juvenile court about $18,000 so far.
Joe Colabella, the juvenile court administrator for Jefferson County, said the Steubenville rape case will probably cost the court another $3,000 to $5,000 in expenses. Colabella said preparing for the large media contingency helped run up the bill.
The amount does not include costs incurred by the sheriff’s office and other county departments. It also doesn’t include the cost of a grand jury that’s considering whether other people should face charges in the case.
Trent Mays and Ma’lik Richmond were convicted of raping the West Virginia girl and sentenced to time in juvenile prison.
