OSU Seeing More Out-Of-State Applicants
Ohio State University says the number of applications from out-of-state students has topped those from in-state students for the first time.
The university says the trend reflects recruiting efforts developed as the number of high school graduates in Ohio is dropping.
Ohio State, one of the country’s biggest universities, has added recruiters in the past couple of years in Atlanta, Dallas, Los Angeles and New York City.
The university is also recruiting new students overseas, with an emphasis on China, India and more recently Brazil.
Dolan Evanovich, Ohio State’s vice president for strategic enrollment planning, tells The Associated Press the goal is to create a “brain gain” for the university and the state.
Of Ohio State’s 35,000 applications for the upcoming school year, 56 percent are from out of state.
